This week, TEC Industrial employees proudly participated in the 34th annual United Way Week of Caring, joining approximately 1,500 volunteers from across the region in giving back to our neighbors in need. Two teams of TECI employees rolled up their sleeves and headed out to support two local nonprofits: Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee and Holston Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
One team volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, where they worked to package food boxes as part of the organization’s Summer Feeding Program. This year, Second Harvest is working to distribute more than 300,000 meals through over 50 community distribution sites across Northeast Tennessee, providing seven breakfasts and seven lunches per child in each box during the months when school cafeterias are closed. Our team was proud to help package 440 of these boxes and help give back to the children in our region.
A second team volunteered at Holston Habitat for Humanity ReStore, helping to sort and organize clothing, books, and other donated items. The ReStore accepts a wide range of used goods, diverting materials from landfills while generating revenue that is reinvested directly into Holston Habitat’s affordable housing programs serving Sullivan, Washington, and Carter Counties in Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia. We were grateful to be able to volunteer our time and help support the workers and volunteers at this store.
The United Way Week of Caring brings together United Ways of Greater Kingsport, Bristol TN/VA, East Tennessee Highlands, Greene, and Southwest Virginia, partnering volunteers with more than 30 nonprofits across the region. We are proud to be part of that effort and would like to thank all the TEC Industrial employees who gave their time and energy to make a difference in our community.
